The soldier, cowboy, rancher, Indianwill live in his pictures and bronzes, I verily believe, for all time. Theodore Roosevelt, October 1907. Colonel Frederic Remington was an American painter, illustrator, sculptor, and writer who specialized in depictions of the Old American West, specifically images of cowboys, American Indians, and the U. S. Cavalry. Remington received a commission to do eighty-three illustrations for a book by Theodore Roosevelt, Ranch Life and the Hunting Trail. He contributed Illustrations regularly to Harpers Weekly. Remington became established in society by his personality, pseudo-cowboy speaking manner, and Wild West reputation. His biography falsely promoted some of the myths he encouraged about his Western experiences.
